Actually, i've been playing in the band for about 4 months...I'm so bad at updates. So far it's going pretty well. I'm still a bit rusty on the ole bass guitar but I'm having loads of fun. After four months we are really starting to come together now. We've managed to get down about 4 songs so far and they are all oozing rock goodness! We're not quite ready to record or gig yet but give us a few months and we'll be creating tremors (or at least a few tummy rumblings) throughout the UK.

Other than my new rock and roll life, things are going very well indeed. Beth and I have just booked a nice break in Edinburgh in February for her birthday. We've managed to get a room in a guest house right on the royal mile so we won't have far to stumble on an evening. I'm also in the process of trying to sort out tickets for Electric Picnic. I haven't heard who's playing yet but if last year is anything to by it should be another amazing weekend. If you're not convinced you only have to see the pictures from last year...

I've still got loads of pictures to upload from New Years but in the meantime I've just come across this one that was taken on our last trip to Whitby, check out that forheeed

Whitby Love
Originally uploaded by redneckjim79.

I'm Back...

Wow, I'm amazed that this website still exists. I thought that having gone this long without a single post the internet gods may have deemed it unworthy of its existence on the interweb...Apparently not.

I can only apologies for what has been an extremely long absence from the world of redneck ramblings but things have been a bit on the crazy side for the last few months. To be honest I'm not sure that "crazy" is the correct word...

Thankfully, it's not all bad news. Things are going well at work. Although there have been a few communication issues and the hours have been long (24*7 shifts..ergh) the job is really interesting. I'm working on one of the biggest SANs (Storage Area Network for you non-techies) in Europe (apparently) which always makes things interesting. So far there hasn't been a lot of technical work, more dealing with paperwork but it is the NHS after all so that's not too surprising. Apparently there should be an increase in techie work over the coming months though so it should get better.

I'm also off to Ireland for the second time in two months, the first being a much needed trip to Dublin with my cousin Scott. This time it's to go to Electric Picnic. I can't wait, Massive Attack are headlining on the first night!!! The rest of the line-up includes Gary Numan, 2 Many DJs, New order and loads of other bands that I can't remember off hand. Providing the weather holds out, it should be a crackin weekend!

To help me resolve my obvious blogging issues I have now signed up with Flickr which will allow me to post photoblogs from my phone (isn't technology great!!). I haven't actually tried it yet but hopefully it will be a revolution in redneck blogging! Who'd have thunk it...a redneck who cannot only blog and use a phone but can combine the two in a blending of technologies not seen since the first amish person stuck their hand up a horses arse and called themselves a mechanic!

Flickr Rocks...hopefully...

As I mentioned in my last post I've finally gotten around to setting up a flickr account. The good people at Glasshouse and HDS (Hitachi Data Systems for you non techies out there) have finally sent through the official offer letter...and what an offer! From the 1st of July I will be working as a Storage Administrator at HDS in Leeds. I know it seems like a long time to wait but I've had to give a two month notice to InTechnology to prevent them from charging me £4500 for training costs...tha bastards! Since agreeing to increase my notice period InTech have agreed to reduce the charges to £800 which Glasshouse are willing to cover...phew! That would have definitely put a damper on the celebrations.

The role sounds really good! Definitely a move in the right direction for me. It's gonna open the door to move onto some pretty good things. The only downside to the position is that I will have to go back to shift work for the first 18 months. I really don't mind that though...it means four days off every working week...woo!

So what have I been up to? Feck all is the sad truth. Saying that I have been to the last couple of FIRE nights at Native State in Harrogate. I have to say, Matt and the gang seem to be on to a very good thing there! They've managed to produce a very good night with some top class DJ's. It's funny how people seem to come out of the woodwork for it as well. You can always be guaranteed to bump into someone you haven't seen in a while which always makes for a good night!

As well as Fire, I've also been to a couple of PTSF gigs. It's good to see them back on top form again...it seems like an age since they last played a gig!

Redneck Internet

I've just managed to stumble across a great Redneck Site...home sweet home!

Bummed on the streets of Manchester...

What a great weekend! A mate of mine from university, Rob, relocated to Manchester after completing his degree and has been threatening to beat me savagely unless I make the trip down to see him. This weekend I decided that his wait was over and I boarded a train from Harrogate bound for the great city.

The journey only actually took two hours and wasn't too unpleasant. Scenery between Harrogate and Leeds was a bit bland (as usual) but once we got out towards Huddersfield it was beautiful! I even managed to get through most of the book I’m reading at the moment (“The Lost Continent – Travels in Small Town America” by Bill Bryson) without being too bothered by screaming kids or drunken chavs.

About 20 minutes before my arrival in Manchester I text from Dave in Liverpool saying that him and Charlie were going to drive down to Harrogate as a surprise. That’s right, the one weekend I’ve managed to gather up the energy to leave Harrogate they decide to come down to surprise me…oh the irony. Luckily I managed to convince them that I night out in Manchester would not only be more fun but a lot cheaper on fuel.

Finally arrived in Manchester and got my stuff settled at Rob’s flat out near Timperly. Once we were settled we went out for a few beers while we waited for Charlie and Dave to arrive. After a few pints of some 6.5% Belgian lager we finally got the call to go and meet them and then it was off into the city centre.

The first thing I noticed on the night out is that Manchester is HUGE! We actually had to catch a taxi between two different areas of town in order to get from the city centre bars out towards Sankeys. Given the area that Sankey’s is in I’m actually surprised that it’s such a popular club. It is in the middle of a really dodgy looking industrial estate..loads of burned down factories and dodgy dark alleys…I was actually worried that we weren’t going to make it to the club due to being taken down some back alley and…well…you get the picture.

Having said that had we all been mugged beaten and molested before arriving it would have all been worth it! The night was fantastic. Cassius vs. DJ Sneak...amazing! The night was filled with lots of big dirty bass lines and beats that no one could have resisted dancing to! Needless to say we were all done in when we finally arrived back at the flat around 6am. Managed to catch the last hour of March of the Penguins before finally heading to bed.

The next morning we went back into the city centre in search of food. This time it was China Town for a Chinese Buffet…nothing like it to cure a hangover! Then it was back on the train to Harrogate. This time I used my time on the train to blag a free Nokia N70 from Orange…bonus!

Thanks to Rob, Charlie and Dave for a fantastic weekend! We definitely have to do it again…next time I’ll bring Beth!

Supermarket Scam

Be on your guard when on your own for this one guys. You have been warned.....

I don't know if you shop at Tesco but this may be useful to know. I am sending this to you to warn you of something that happened to me, as I have become a victim of a clever scam while out shopping.

This happened to me at Tesco this lunchtime and it could happen to you.

Here's how the scam worked

Two seriously good-looking 25 year-old girls come over to your car as you are putting your shopping in the boot.

They both start wiping your windscreen with a rag and Windolene, wearing only hot pants and really skimpy t-shirts. It's impossible not to look! When you thank them and offer them a tip, they say 'No' and instead just ask you for a ride to the other supermarket in town. I agreed, as if you wouldn't, and they both get into the back of the car. On the way, they start making out with each other. Then one of them climbs over into the front seat and gave me a blow job while the other one steals your wallet.
I had my wallet stolen last Tuesday, Wednesday, twice on Thursday, again on Saturday, and also yesterday!

Happy Birthday Dicky!!!

For those of you who don't know him...Dicky (also known as Richard or "Hey You" to his wife Sarah) is something of a local rock god around Harrogate. As well as all of this he is also quite the martial arts expert. It is thought that he once fought Bruce Lee and got his ass kicked (to be fair, it was Bruce Lee for God's sake!). He even finds spare time in his busy schedule to motivate me to go to the gym every now again!!

All this and the man is turning 28! As you can see the website now has a new redneck banner thanks to the amazing talents of Mr Chris Vernon. It was possibly the best Christmas present a redneck could ask for...with the exception of a new trailer (yee haw)!

I hope everyone has had a great holiday! Mine was exceptionally nice (goose for Christmas dinner and absinthe for New Years..Woo). Managed to make it back to good old Liverpool for a ho down at Kate's flat. Everything was going very well until someone brought out the old absinthe...never a wise move! The next morning was without doubt the worst morning I've had for quite a while.

A big thank you have to go to Adz (for driving and sticking his ass in Chris' face long enough for me to take a photo), Chris (for the whitty banter and for falling asleep long enough for Adam to do the above dirty deed), Kate (for being such a great hostess), Graemer (for the many shots of absinthe followed by in depth discussions about life and such other drunken things), Gregor (for some of the best "Yo Momma" jokes I've heard in years) and finally to Nicki, Pete and Charlie (just for being great).

Another day...Another nervous breakdown

I'm going to stop apologizing for my lack of updates to this god forbidden website. I would like to say that it is all because I'm a lazy bastard but I'm afraid that this is not the case!

Things have been crazy busy for the last three weeks. Believe it or not I actually worked a 65 hour week last week, not including being called almost everynight at around 2:30 in the morning about yet another TSM error. I have now taken over the running of TSM for InTechnology and I can tell you for free that it's a fuckin nightmare! I keep getting approached by people expecting me to be some sort of TSM genius even though I've only been working with it for the last three weeks. It's actually becoming an interesting game of mine to come up with complete bullshit responses to legitimate requests.

For example, the other day I was asked why a particular file wasn't backed up correctly. My response was that there was a primary database failure caused by the interference of a secondary Linux kernel...complete rubbish!

Some good news on the horizon is that I've just arranged for Beth and I to make a trip back to Liverpool for New Years..woo hoo! From what I get there is going to be some prime house party action so it should be a good larf. I can't wait to see everyone...feels like we've been away for an age!

London Calling...

In London this week for a Network Appliance ONTAP Fundamentals course this week. That basically means that I'm going to spend the next week eating/drinking like a king and, provided I keep the reciepts, it can all be claimed on expenses...shamone!

I've arranged to and meet my cousin for few drinks in the city center, so I might actually get to see a bit of the city before I get back on the train to sunny Harrogate.

Gothfest 2005

As a bit of a halloween celebration Beth and I decided to go to the Whitby goth festival. For those of you who have never been before I would most definitely recomend it!

When you mention the word Goth it normally congers up images of a bunch of smelly people wearing black eyeliner and a Marilyn Manson t-shirt. At least, that's what I always thought. In actual fact the majority of the people who dress for the occasion wear amazing victorian outfits and look as if they have stepped straight out of a Bram Stoker novel.

There were a couple of events over the weekend (see the Official Website) but they were all sold out
by the time that we arrived. There were still plenty of things to do, like spend an afternoon in The Shepards Purse drinking Spicy Mocha's and eating all manner of homemade food, including some of the best home made cakes in the world!

I did manage to get some pictures but, as usual, I haven't actually uploaded them yet. Hopefully, I'll have them up in the next few days.
